TVCRA

The TAUNTON VALE CYCLE  RACING ASSOCIATION (TVCRA) was formed over 15 years ago by a few members of local clubs. Its aim was much the same as it is today, to give safe race training at Ilton airfield to all local clubs & riders. The present clubs are much the same clubs as those many years ago, although some clubs have come & gone. We have no formal constitution but we try to organize the association along the lines stated below. The TVCRA is run by volunteers seconded from its member clubs, any one is more than welcome to help run the association in any capacity.

We set off at 7.00 pm as one group for the 'neutralized/social' 1st lap, please restrain any riders from flying off the front to steel a march on the rest. At the end of the first lap the majority will pause/stop & then proceed for X number of laps, this pause will enable the lesser/newcomer riders to organize their group & to soon follow on at their comfortable speed for X laps.

The aims are to encourage all riders in both groups to:

a)  complete the X laps if possible

 b)  cut through to rejoin the group if dropped

 c) cut through or drop back to rejoin others

 d) reform new groups if necessary as the laps progress

 e) help newcomers with tactics to stay within a group

Harder chain gang through & off on the front of a group may not be the best for all riders on a tues night prior to a  midweek race or time trial.  All riders should be encouraged to ride in the organized format & take an easier ride in the main group or join in with a slower group of riders to have an easier ride rather than no ride at all.. It will be up to the more experienced riders to curtail the odd rider or two who will always disrupt a fast & smooth running group by flying off the front.

Encourage new riders (we need 80 not 70 for costs) to help run & organize the TVCRA

We have six clubs in TVCRA, TOR & SRC being large in numbers of riders in the TVCRA,

We split the duties of Organizer on the night & Lap counter between all the clubs

 Something like 5 sessions TOR & SRC =10 NIGHTS, 4 CLUBS x 3 sessions = 12 nights

This enables us to cover the season with a lap organizer which most riders like to see.

It would mean that any rider would only miss 1 nights ride (if doing both jobs) during the season.

We  have compiled this write up for distribution to explain the structure for the TVCRA  & will annually compile a calendar of dates/4-up/thurs races for the coming year & publish. The following Information is to explain the 'insurance' cover' & who can ride on the aerodrome & when.

The insurance policy only indemnifies the members against any damage that we may cause against any of the MOD’s property including Helicopters & Aircraft. It does not cover any rider against any personnel accident that may happen on the airfield. Litter is a prime example as it can get into the engine air intakes & cause considerable expensive damage. Insurance cost £1170 per season plus MOD License £80 + £15 per night makes a hefty total £1580. Hence the annual subscriptions.

On no account should riders who are not TVCRA members ride on the airfield at any time before, during & after the organized sessions, as they are not covered by the MOD/TVCRA INSURANCE

This privilege of riding on the airfield has been paid for by the members for the members!

We have produced gate security passes along with a guest pass for 2-off try outs per person per season.
